??? “…Why do you look like you lost?...are you fuckin blind…you damn near took that fuckers head off” Campbell snickered at the expression on John’s face. “…I have to get to the gym and get training a little harder…I’m fighting some Mexican or Cuban or something next show…and he’s a submission fighter…I fuckin hate grappling/submission fuckin shit….if he takes me to the ground I’m fucked Snake… You know I can’t submit guys ” John said as he sat in the bar drinking a beer close to closing time at Borealis.
The waitress smiled as she passed by picking up bottles, although she was missing a tooth she had a low cut top on and John hadn’t had “some” in a long time. “The Snake” Campbell McGibbon was a non-bullshit type of man…a former heavyweight boxer and MMA artist himself, he believed in John’s talent and wisely kept after John to forget his losses and begin trying to concentrate on the future. This was William’s worst attribute..he beat himself up more than his opponent did. John had won his last match hands down with one punch really, but to John it was a “lucky” punch. In the back of John’s mind, his next opponent was bigger and possibly held the key to beating John in the ring.
“You beat the last bum, the next bum might take two shots but he’ll go down” Campbell squinted with his glasses sitting on his nose. “Look John we’ll hit the gym tomorrow and start on some take down defense…member? Member when you fought the bum from L.A. and he tried to lock you against the cage and through you…you dropped him when he went for the legs with a knee to the face…”
John had other things on his mind as well. An old “friend” had phoned him early in the day to wish him luck…she was someone he had been looking for, for a long long time. He was unsure really how she knew he was wrestling again let alone where he was and what his cell phone number was. Allison to John would be like “Crytonite” to Superman. She was beautiful, long blond hair, long legs. She had the tendancy to “lead him on” then piss off. He would then think about her…and this distraction isn’t good for an MMA fighter.
“Snake…Allison called me today…said she wanted to get together on Monday” ..Campbell looked at John in almost an awe. “Is there something wrong upstairs boy, that girls nothing but a fucking pile of shit and trouble…now finish your beer, stay away from the bitch…lets go get some sleep…we got a lot of work to do in the morning.
John was wondering how him and Snake were getting back to the shitty motel they had come across out in Fort Mac but none the less he was eager to get home and to sleep. He knew now that if he didn’t get to sleep soon he would start to be afraid. This time it wouldn’t be from wrestling. It would be from her…..
“Hey snake…you really think I can take this next guy” …”Well if you loose…it’ll only be because of you…you’re your on worst enemy…and that fuckin scares me” …with that John got up and signalled for Campbell to follow, Campbell hobbled behind “The Prodigy” and for John that was good…. He did not want “Snake” to see… he still had that “look” on his face…
